In 1883 Anton Riesterer, who was the owner of the Adler (now Parkhotel Adler), built the “Gasthaus zum Bahnhof” (station guesthouse) on his land. This building is now known as the Schwarzwaldhof. The guesthouse was managed by his son Herman and his son’s wife Ida, nee Sutter. Ida was a daughter of the family that owned the “Hotel Weißes Röste” (now the Földifachklinik). The former station guesthouse had six guest beds. The Hinterzarten post office was situated on the first floor, in what is now room 21. The stables that belonged to the house were located in the rear courtyard and were used by livestock handlers to feed their animals. These stables have now been turned into garages. The guesthouse was in a very favourable position as the construction of the Höllental railway was completed in 1887 and the animals could be loaded directly onto the neighbouring train. The construction of the Höllental railway also helped to boost tourism.
The first extension of the guesthouse became necessary in 1911 – 1912. A room in a low-rise building was constructed, which is now used as the restaurant. In 1942 the entire building was expanded and thereby gained its present-day form. After the end of the war Eberhardt, the son of Hermann and Ida Riesterer, took over the running of the hotel. He was an outstanding expert in his profession who unfortunately died much too early in 1963. After that the hotel was sold to the community, which then leased it.
In 1968 the community sold the hotel to the couple Adolf and Doris Gutzweiler. The Gutzweiler family has managed the hotel independently since 1st April 1971 and has been carrying out the necessary renovation work on an ongoing basis since then. Today, the hotel is an attractive building in the middle of the village that is much photographed at all times of the year.
